APPEAL of Archbishop Hristo Pisarov Apostolic Nuncio of Ecclesia Catholica Ecumenica Christi in Eastern Europe

Dear Christian brothers and sisters, dear people of good will, As the Apostolic Nuncio of Ecclesia Catholica Ecumenica Christi (ECUMENICAL CATHOLIC CHURCH OF CHRIST) in Eastern Europe, I should like to express my pastoral concern and anxiety regarding the governmental excess, the murders and the assaults against protesters in the Republic of Ukraine. I am afraid that the pious form of church messages will be inappropriate in view of the forthcoming severe humanitarian crisis that can be triggered by these events. Therefore, in evangelical boldness and as a spiritual person, I consider myself obliged to point out, to expose and to condemn the subcelestial spirits of evil being on work in Ukraine, "for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12 ).

For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the principalities and the ruling forces who are masters of the darkness in this world, the spirits of evil in the heavens.
Ephesians 6:12

To my great regret my forefinger will have to point first at the "civilized" ambiguous moral model of the West. There is nothing more demoralizing and detrimental to morals than to serve two opposing principles, because "... no man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24). Hence I cannot do otherwise but indicate that the economic pragmatism is one of the main factors which discredits the moral foundations of the West. By the way the eternal issue of mammon has been often ignored by many, but ultimately it always turns up to date regardless of the time in which we live, because money does not smell until someone appears who takes it away and with it your life.

Then the smell of cadaver comes and everything loses its meaning except the fight for life. Historically, this was confirmed in the most brutal way during wars and under the totalitarian regimes in the 20th century. The Christian conceptual system looks upon the manifestations of the Antichrist as inherently associated with each inhumanity. One of the explicit manifestations of genocide and sadism against humanity is communism. Thus, I consider as dangerous and unprincipled when the West gets itself involved in economic meddling with the post-communist countries and pays for it by not defending the inalienable human rights and freedoms as set by the declarations of human rights. The behaviour of the Russian Empire, the events in Ukraine and even Bulgaria show that post-communism is post-totalitarian by nature and this determines the critical minimum of humanity of these regimes. Therefore I urge with pastoral concern all churches, religious and governmental institutions, NGOs, people with influence and people of good will all over the world, strongly to oppose the gross violations of civil rights, the killings and violence in Ukraine.

As a clergyman and a Christian, I cannot do otherwise but condemn the killings, the violence and suppression of human freedom as crimes violating the true and holy order predetermined by the Almighty "… for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness" (Romans 1:18) God save the Ukraine and the world from all folly and malice! God bless you!

Amen!
