Cathedral Abby of St. Anthony - Holy See of the Worldwide Ecumenical Catholic Church of Christ

Constructed of stone and pressed brick in the Romanesque Style, the Cathedral occupies without a doubt, a prominent place among the churches of Detroit. There are three Front entrances. In a niche above the beautiful main entrance stands the large statue of St. Anthony. Upon entering, the first thing that impressed one is the soft, delicate light admitted through beautifully colored stain-glass windows that fill the interior and lends an air of indescribable peace so soothing and inviting to prayer and meditation.

Above, the ceiling is arched, the broad wide arch of the a sign of firmness, strength and determination. The high-vaulted sanctuary receives its light from four smaller windows of four Evangelists. At the left, a magnificent glass painting of the angelic Aloysius receiving his First Holy Communion from his sainted friend, Charles Borromeo. Under a charming rosette window in the large transept area a triple group: St. Boniface the great Apostle of the Germans, St. Anthony, the patron Saint of the Cathedral, and lastly, St. Vincent de Paul.

Martyr Mamas of Caesarea in Cappadocia
Patriarch of Constantinople; 3628 Martyrs of Nicomedia; Venerable Anthony and Theodosius, Founders of Monasticism in Rus' of the Kiev Caves; Martyrs Diomedes, Julian, Philip, Eutykhian, Hesychios, Leonides, Eutychios, Philadelphos, Melanippos, Parthagapa and Theodore; Righteous Eleazar, son of Aaron; Righteous Phineas, grandson of Aaron; Martyrs Aeithalas and Ammon of Thrace; Antonii and Feodosii of Pechersk; celebration of the Icon of the Theotokos at Kaluga

St Mamas was from Gangra of Paphlagonia. He was born in prison, where his parents Theodotus and Rufina were suffering for Christ's sake and where they ended their lives. He was named Mamas because, after he had long remained without speaking, he addressed his foster mother Ammia as "mama". Ammia died when Mama was 15 years old.

St Mama was tortured for his Christian faith by orders from the governor of Caesarea and was then sent before Emperor Aurelian who had him tortured again. He was later thrown to the lions, but they remained docile, and a lion remained with him as his companion. He contested for Christ about the year 275 AD.

Dismissal Hymn (Fourth Tone)

Your Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for You received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from You, our immortal God. For since he possessed Your strength, he cast down the tyrants and completely destroyed the demon's strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our soul, since You are merciful.

Kontakion (Third Tone)

With the staff bestowed on you by God, O holy Great Martyr, shepherd us your people in green and life-giving pastures; swiftly crush with godly power unseen and wild beasts underneath the feet of them that praise you with longing; for in dangers we all have you, O Mamas, as our fervent protector and help.
